The Trade Mark African Renaissance Ambassador Debates
The African Renaissance Ambassador (ARA) Debates is truly the African
School Event of the Year. Each Debate is an opportunity for high school
students to discuss and debate serious African and global issues. Students
at participating schools will first organize a public debate at their school
and ask other students to vote on who won the debate. All four-person
debate teams (plus two educators) will then compete in the national final
with other high schools within a specific country.

The TOPIC for the 2008/2009 ARA Debates is Corruption with sub-topics:
Corruption is at the root of African country’s economic crisis.
The fight against systemic poverty is more important than the fight
against corruption
Government policies (such as transparency) rather than private
initiatives and personal integrity constitute the most powerful antidote to a
corrupt society (bribery)
Moral education rather than prison system best deals with the societal
crisis of corruption
Bush-falling aggravates rather than undermines the practice of
corruption in Africa
The Church has failed in its role to fight corruption in Africa
Our ' Fight Corruption action plan" is the best blueprint to fight
corruption"

This year from September to December 2008 Schools will carry out
internal Debates in their different schools. They will then provide videos
of the internal debates, which will be assessed. The top 8 teams will then
participate in the Inter-school debates beginning in February-May 2009
During this time schools are strongly encouraged to participate in The
People Speak Global Debates
